Pointing and Shooting

Pin It I'm not much of a point and shoot person, finding it difficult to hold that silly little screen at arms length and aim. I prefer the intimacy of a viewfinder, but it's good to have some discipline and explore these things, especially with the Ricoh GR-D and GX100, which have a rangefinder appeal like my old Leica film cameras. Besides, apart from feeling natural and being ergonomically an extension of your arm, the camera you use shouldn't make any difference to the image.

These images are shot in Clairwood, Durban - a now ruined and once proud residential area of Indian origin families that has been allowed to be invaded by industry...as well as at the University of KwaZulu Natal, Westville campus. The dude with lots of metal is a wrestler with the name of Nightmare. I took some portraits of him because I like unusual looking folk...
